Juneteenth Celebration

Farm Arts Collective will host it's 4th annual Juneteenth Celebration at it’s Agri-Cultural on Willow Wisp Organic Farm in Damascus, Pennsylvania. This year’s featured event is the world premiere of a new play entitled, The Dawn of a New Century written by Tasa Faronii-Butler and directed by Oliver King.

The short play illuminates a winde ranging conversation between W. E.B. DuBois and Booker T. Washington. The two men cover topics of agriculture, labor, slavery, education, politics, and history. In their debate, the audience gets a wide breath of understanding of slavery, emancipation and how the future can unfold.

The performance features an all-star cast of performers: Crystal Tweed, John Neails & G. Oliver King. The evening will include delicious food, and a community conversation moderated by African American historian and journalist, Dr. Janus Adams.

Farm Arts Collective is committed to celebrating the important federal holiday, Juneteenth which marks the end of slavery in the United States. June 19 marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure all enslaved people were freed, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

The event is $10 suggested donation at the door or Pay-What-You Can.
